Over the weekend, the Paul Wellstone and Pete Domenici Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act of 2008 was signed into law. The bill was included in the financial bailout package passed by congress and signed by the president on October 3, 2008. The law requires health plans to provide equal coverage of mental and physical illnesses and will make it easier for people to obtain treatment for a wide range of conditions, including alcohol and drug abuse.
